Stay on Track during the Holiday Season

1.Everything in moderation. Don't avoid a food you love because you think it is too fattening. Have a taste! Often if a craving is not filled, we overeat another food choice and end up consuming more calories then if we had given in to the craving. Have one serving of what you want.

2.Going to a Holiday Party and you are worried there won't be any healthy choices? Bring a favorite with you to give to the host or hostess to serve. If this isn't an option eat a light meal before you go so that you are not starving when you get there, this will keep you from piling up your plate.

3.Be the Designated Driver. By skipping the alcohol you will save calories. At 7 calories per gram drinks can really add up. A six ounce glass of white wine has 120 calories, Red / blush wine 128 calories; a sweet dessert wine 270 calories. Twelve ounces of regular beer 150 Calories, Light 100. Stick to water or diet soda and save the calories.

4.Don't forget to exercise. The holiday season can be very stressful; exercise is a great way to relive stress. Schedule time for yourself away from the "hustle and bustle." Go to the gym or bundle up and take a walk. Or make it a family affair and take everyone to the ice skating rink. Burning those extra calories will allow you some leeway so that you can have a small treat.

5.If you are the host, stock up on disposable plastic containers. Pack up the leftovers and send them home with your guests. If they are not in the house you can't eat them.

Remember tomorrow is a new day. If you find you over indulge one day, accept it and move on. Be extra careful to make better choices the next day.
